Grow a Garden Weather and Mutation Guide

Weather events and possible mutations are the best way to maximize the value of your crops in Grow a Garden. Mutations can randomly occur, be brought on by changes in the weather, or even be influenced by the gear you buy and place down in your garden. In this guide, I've deatiled everything you need to know about the mutations in this Roblox experience, as well as the value multipliers they create, and what mutations are the best.

Weather Events in Grow a Garden

There are 4 different weather events that can take place in the popular garden sim. 3 of these (Rain, Frost, and Thunderstorm) and take place at any time, while the Meteor Shower typically takes place during Nightfall.

Rain

It's usually a sunny day in Grow a Garden, which is obviously essential for plant growth. But in terms of the weather events that can affect your crops, rain is the most common one you'll experience.

When it rains, the sunny and bright sky is replaced with a gloomy, cloudy one. Rain causes the Wet mutation to plants and is doubly beneficial. It will increase the speed at which your plants grow, and there's a 50% chance that fruit will earn the [Wet] mutation, which doubles their value.

Frost

Frost is far less likely to occur than rain, but when it does happen, you can get 2 different types of mutations from this weather event! When Frost happens, plant growth speed increases, and you can end up with plants that are either [Chilled] or [Frozen].

Unfortunately, there don't seem to be regular intervals at which Frost occurs, and it's hard to provide guidance on how often you might see it. I've experienced it twice in one hour, and anywhere between every 2-4 hours, but it does seem to happen multiple times a day at least.

Thunderstorm

By far, the most elusive weather event is the Thunderstorm. Once again, there's no set interval for when these events occur. I've seen it happen twice in one hour, 3 times a day, and 9 times in a day on different occasions.

It makes sense that this would be less frequent than the others, as a Thunderstorm can also bring 2 mutations. Just like rain, it can give plants a [Wet] mutation, but the most profitable is the [Shocked] mutation that comes from the lightning. Like other weather events, growth speed is also increased by a Thunderstorm.

Meteor Shower

Out of all the weather events, the Meteor Shower is the only one limited to taking place during Nightfall. Nightfall happens every hour, meaning there's a chance each time this occurs for a Meteor Shower to take place. When it does, fruits have a chance of getting the Celestial Mutation.

Mutations in Grow a Garden

In the table below, you can see all available mutations and the multipliers you'll get from them. We've tested this on crops around the same size, where one has no mutations and one has a mutation from the list below.

Mutations Can Stack

To really push your profits, you'll want mutations to be stacked. Be warned that not all mutations can stack, but there are plenty that will. For example, you can get a Chilled, Rainbow crop or a Wet, Shocked plant. Whenever a crop has mutations stacked, the value increases.

Mutation Multipliers

Mutation Multiplier Value
Gold x20 Value
Wet x2 Value
Frozen x10 Value
Chilled x2 Value
Shocked x50 Value
Rainbow x50 Value
Big Depending on the size
Chocolate x2 Value
Moonlit x2 Value
Bloodlit x4 Value
Celestial x120 Value
Zombified x25 Multiplier

What Are the Best Mutations?

As you can see from the table above, the best mutation you can get in the game is Celestial Mutation. This gives a x120 multiplier to fruits, but is dependant on experiencing a Meteor Shower. To increase your chances of getting this mutation, you'll first need to be on a server before Nightfall begins at the start of every hour, and hope for a Meteor Shower to take place. Then, you'll want to use the Star Caller available in the Blood Moon shop to direct shooting stars to your crops.

Following this, the Shocked and Rainbow Mutations are the second best. Rainbow is random but rare, but it can happen at any time without any need to rely on weather events. Meanwhile, Shocked is a mutation that can happen during a Thunderstorm. You can increase your chances of getting this mutation by using a Lightning Rod.

Get Geared Up

Our top tip to help you see more mutated plants is to spend your Sheckles on gear. Stock up on Basic Sprinklers to increase your fruit size, Advanced Sprinklers to improve mutation chances, and Godly and Master Sprinklers to do both.

Gold Mutation

The gold mutation is rare, but if you're regularly planting and harvesting, you'll be able to get hold of them easily. I've had the best luck getting gold mutations from plants like Apple, Strawberry, Blueberry, and Raspberry. Aim for crops that have multiple harvests and grow back quickly to increase your chances of seeing a gold mutation.

You can use visual and sound clues to identify when you have a gold mutation. You'll hear a twinkling sound, and be able to see little white flashes like stars around the crop.

Wet Mutation

As mentioned above, the Wet mutation comes from Rain or Thunderstorm weather events. These are the mutations you're most likely to see, and you can tell if a crop is wet when you can see water droplets falling from it. This is easier to see on plants that are taller or higher up. For plants like carrots, you may not be able to see the water animation, and you'll just need to pick them to see.

Frozen Mutation

When Frost comes, you'll have a chance of getting the frozen mutation. It's one of the better ones you can achieve from weather events, giving you x10 value to your plants. Frozen mutations are the easiest to spot, as you'll see your plant in a big block of ice when it's frozen.

Chilled Mutation

The chilled mutation occurs alongside the frozen mutation when Frost occurs. It's harder to tell with the chilled mutation, particularly if you've also had rain recently. It looks very similar to the rain mutation, but look for flecks of white rather than droplets to tell the difference.

Shocked Mutation

If you're lucky enough to get the shocked mutation, you'll see your plants glowing. They'll take on a brighter hue and become luminous. While the Shocked mutation is harder to achieve because Thunderstorms are so rare, and even when they do occur, you're not guaranteed Shocked fruit, you can improve your chances of getting this mutation -- but you'll need to save up.

Visit the Gear Stand to get Lightning Rods costing 1,000,000 Sheckles when they're in stock. These can be used 3 times per rod to divert lightning towards the crops that surround it. For more on this, see our Gear Guide.

Rainbow Mutation

The rarest of them all, and one of the most valuable and best mutations you can get, is the Rainbow mutation. Unfortunately, it's all just down to luck if you're using normal seeds.

The alternative way to try and get a Rainbow mutation is to see if you have a Super Seed Pack in the Forever Pack. To do this, open the Shop icon on the left-hand side, and look for a rainbow seed icon that can appear in the Forever Pack menu. If you're lucky, this will be free, but the likelihood is you'll need to buy it with Robux.

When you get this pack, it's still not guaranteed you'll get a Rainbow crop, you just have a higher chance of getting a crop that's golden or rainbow. If you do end up with a rainbow crop, you'll know you've got it when you see a plant glowing and constantly changing color.

Chocolate Mutation

This was a limited-time mutation that was available during the Easter event. Chocolate Mutation could be achieved by using a Chocolate Sprinkler on crops.

Big Mutation

Lastly, there's the big mutation, which is where any of your crops can become giant. This can happen naturally anytime you plant a seed. You might immediately notice a giant carrot pop up, for example. But the best way to achieve this is to use gear like Sprinklers to increase your fruit size.

Moonlit Mutation

As part of the Lunar Glow Event, your crops can also mutate thanks to the moon. When night arrives, and your crops are under the glow of the moon, you might see them take on the Moonlit Mutation. When this happens, they'll emit a purple glow and a slight haze around them. Moonlit plants have a 2x multiplier to increase their value, but you'll want to hand them over to the Wise Owl before selling them! Night comes every hour, on the hour, and lasts for around 10 minutes.

Disco Mutation

Before the launch of the Chicken Zombie event on May 17, 2025, the dev team had a little disco. This resulted in characters dancing around and a special disco mutation of crops possible. The Disco Mutation made plants glow neon like they've been shocked, but also changed color and cycled through the rainbow hues.

Bloodlit Mutation

As part of the Blood Moon being introduced to the game, crops no longer just have the chance to experience the Moonlit Mutation, but can also become Bloodlit. These give off a red glow, and look almost as if they're bleeding. This gives crops a 4x multiplier.

Celestial Mutation

The Celestial Mutation occurs during a Meteor Shower event, which exclusively happens during the Nightfall. If you're lucky enough to receive this mutation, it gives crops a huge multiplier of 120!

If you buy the Star Caller from the Blood Moon shop, you'll have a better chance of attracting the Celestial Mutation during a Meteor event. Celestial Fruit will have a purple glow around them and sparkle with tiny little gold stars.

Zombified Mutation

The Mythical Chicken Zombie has a passive that gives fruit a chance of becoming Zombified. When Zombified, you'll receive a 25x multiplier to fruit.

You'll receive a notification when a fruit is Zombified, telling you the fruit that's been affected. Fruits will drip with green and have a green glow around it when zombified.
